THE BETHANY VILLAGE STORY
Bethany Retirement Home, Inc. (The Courtyards) was founded and established by the North Central New York Conference of the United Methodist Church. Established in 1969, it is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, composed of community representatives who are elected for a three-year term. Each director serves voluntarily, without monetary compensation. Bethany Retirement Home, Inc. began serving its residents in 1973 as a Domiciliary Care Facility and is certified to operate today by the New York State Department of Health as an Assisted Living Facility.
Bethany Senior Citizens Housing, Inc. (Knoll Apartments) were the next step toward the goal of providing a multi-level campus for retired and/or chronically ill persons. These 36 subsidized apartment units consist of eight two-bedroom units, 28 one-bedroom units and four handicapped units for persons 62 years of age or older, or handicap/disabled regardless of age.
Bethany Nursing Home and Health Related Facility, Inc. (Bethany Manor) is a not-for-profit corporation that functions independently. Established in 1978, it is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, composed of community representatives who are elected for a three-year term. Each director serves voluntarily, without monetary compensation. All 120 beds are designated to provide 24-hour nursing care and short-term rehabilitation. There are also two respite beds. Residents are provided with appropriate services and a full range of recreational activities. In compliance with New York State regulation, Bethany Manor is available to persons 16 years of age and older who are in need of rehabilitative or continuous nursing and personal care as determined by a physician. It provides services for Medicaid and/or Medicare recipients as well as private pay residents.
Orchard Homes at Bethany Village, Inc. (Orchard Homes) consists of 23 homes constructed over a two-year period in the early 1980’s. Residents of these homes enjoy the advantages of an attractive private home within the secure Bethany Village community without the responsibility of maintenance and repair.
It is the policy of the Board of Directors of all four corporations that current residents of the Bethany Village campus be given priority over others for admission in another Bethany Village facility, if space is available and no federal or state regulation prohibits.
THE BETHANY VILLAGE SITE
The site on which Bethany Village is located was once an apple orchard with a variety of trees that were enjoyed for their natural beauty and community interest. The development of walkways and park areas continues as the facility expands. The northern portion of the site contains evergreen stands and a mature forest that provide a rustic, scenic view of slopes as well as a valley overview.
